The NC Rhododendron Festival draws thousands of visitors from all over the region and features the Rhododendron Festival Pageant, the Craft Fair with food vendors, children’s activities, and live music throughout the day, as well as a classic car show, a 10K run, 2 nights of street dancing. Come discover our Small Town Mountain Paradise!
The Festival is held the third weekend in June each year! Make plans to come to the Bakersville this year to experience small town charm and true southern hospitality at its best. Located at the foot of Roan Mountain, Bakersville hosts the Festival every June to celebrate the blooming of the rhododendron atop Roan Mountain. Did you know that Roan Mountain is the home to the largest naturally growing rhododendron garden in the world? Can you imagine 600 acres of blooming rhododendron? It’s breathtaking and it’s a definite must see!
The NC Rhododendron Festival features a craft fair, the NC Rhododendron Pageant, a car show, ducky derby, 10K run and the famous street dance!
The street dance is famous and something you should have on your bucket list! Held in the middle of the street in downtown Bakersville, the street dance is a good old fashioned square dance…with hundreds of your closest (and sometimes newest) friends. Join hands with locals and visitors to form the largest square dance circle you have ever seen (it covers several blocks of downtown) and dance to the sounds of live bluegrass music. You don’t need to know how to dance…it’s simple and the callers guide you through each step. It’s a blast!
Held on both Friday and Saturday evening of festival weekend, you want to be sure to hang around for this!
